desert


woke up to a cold morning but a clear sky in the desert
I parked at the historical marker for where Geronimo was captured
1st time through White Sands National Monument
ever hear that Eisenhower met with ET's at this AFB in '53?
pistachios are my favorite nut and this is the biggest one on the planet


lots of flavored pistachios...garlic was pretty good

had never seen a pistachio tree before this day / 1% of US production is grown in NM
something fishy going on en route to Roswell. fuzz redirected us
closed on WED's

bummed...
driving towards Roswell from the west you get an idea of the terrain in which the crash occurred
most of Roswell was just cheesy tshirt shops

but the UFO museum & research center was informative


 
I spent the night in Roswell and nothing unusual happened. I didn't really expect anything to happen. ahead of me was a long drive to Dodge City....

Bisbee

I found the town freestore
the vegan coffee shop was closing up right when I arrived
some words of wisdom near the free store
went to the archive room to look at old town photos

then took a look at the mining museum
struck out with a local glass of root beer - thumbs down

a gift shop had their entire storefront covered in bottle calps

found the local food coop

they took the time to make me a tempeh sando

on the way out of town, I toured the Shady Dell - would totally stop here with a girlfriend

out the Tucson way....

1st stop upon leaving Edgemont was to visit Rich & Billy @ Zawacki Farms
spent the night @ Holtville Hot Springs - soaked that night & at dawn

the night soak was better... mosquitos were in force as the sun came up
had some minor car trouble... cool wallpaper trim at the dodge dealer


scooted right down to Cathy's recommedation Tania's 33
met old pal Aaron Suski for some dinner
I started out with some cauliflower tacos

then ended on enchilada platter
met up with Cathy at a film festival she was promoting

Cathy and her co hostess introduce the movie / the Loft was a gorgeous single screen theater
5 points cafe - I had chia pudding!

some forecasting for Roswell

after breakfast Cathy casually asked if I'd like a donut

hell YEAH/ most everything is vegan

we both had the puffiest apple fritters I'd ever seen

Cathy found a dollar on the walk

Cathy let me in on a little secret in her hood

candles were still burning from people's earlier visits
took a drive up "A" mountain for a view of the city

I can relate
the BE KIND theme was all over downtown Tucson

  • Cathy was meeting a pal for lunch so I walked back to the van and headed out toward Bisbee. Hope that thesis gets sorted out soon, Cathy. Wish I could have stayed longer.
